Fire Comes to Cove Canyon
Fire Ignited June 23
After an abundant spring, a few weeks of hot weather, and a prairie lightning storm, a fire was ignited on the land on July 23rd. It burned 700 acres from the Eastern boundary to about 2 miles west, mostly in the main canyon area and nearby plateau. An article appeared in the Billings Gazette on July 24th. We have yet to do a full assessment of changes and possible damage but will update information on the website and in our land-blog and newsletter as it becomes available. In the meantime, we appreciate all of the phone calls and support that have come in and are especially grateful to the Molt Volunteer Fire Department, NRCS, the BLM, Billings dispatch, and all others who worked to help keep things under control.
